What is Recruitment?

Fall Formal Recruitment is one week of events and functions to aquaint you with Greek life and sorority women at the University of Kentucky.  It is a time to be entertained with singing and dancing, and to laugh with the members of each sorority.  Each house visit is a time to ask questions and meet new people.

Potential New Members (PNMs) will move into the dorms one week before school begins, where they will join with a group under the guidance of a current sorority member, called a Gamma Chi.  Gamma Chis are trained by UK's Panhellenic Council and will assist PNMs throughout the week.  For many, Formal Recruitment is the initial step in making the first lifelong friendships of their college years.

Recap Formal Recruitment 2009
Formal Recruitment 2009 was a success!  Thank you to all alumnae who took the time to write recommendations as our Recruitment team greatly values your opinions and ideas.  On Bid Day, Beta Psi received 55 new alphas!  With chapter quota being lowered to 55 (from 69 '08-'09) for the 2009-2010 academic year, we are thrilled that these girls have chosen Alpha Delta Pi as their new home away from home.  Congratulations girls!

Stay tuned for information regarding Recruitment 2010!

Sorority Membership Benefits

 Scholarship:

UK's sorority women take pride in maintaining high standards of academic achievement.  Participation in a sorority promotes time management skills, which are vital in balancing responsibility, study time, and campus involvement.  In the Fall 2006 semester, Alpha Delta Pi proudly broke the record for the highest chapter GPA and new member GPA in Panhellenic history.  Our sorority encourages each member to strive for academic excellence in accordance with the values and creed of Alpha Delta Pi.

Leadership:

UK's sorority women consistently stand out as the prominent leaders on campus.  The opportunities for personal growth and development of leadership skills in a sorority are endless.  Sorority membership creates an environment for mentoring and networking.  The sisters of Alpha Delta Pi can be found in leadership positions in Student Government, UK FUSION, Student Activities Board, Student Development Council, Student Athletic Council, honors societies, and service organizations.  They are college ambassadors, Singletary and Presidential scholars, tour guides, peer alcohol educators, and intramural athletes.  To read more about the chapter's involvement, visit Chapter Accomplishments and Awesome ADPis.

Service:

Each year, UK sororities donate thousands of dollars to national charities.  Every sorority supports its own specific philanthropic organization throughout the school year.  The Greek system at UK has a reputation of strong support and aid within the community of Lexington.  Alpha Delta Pi raises money throughout the year for the Ronald McDonald House by raising can tabs.  The Beta Psi chapter is fortunate to have a Ronald McDonald House located on campus.  Members donate weekly hours to the organization by planting flowers, cooking dinner, baking and decorating cookies, or playing bingo or games with the guests and their children.  This fall, Alpha Delta Pi will host its annual "Greek County Fair", which involves competition between all Greeks in events such as apple-bobbing and cornhole, to a hamburger-eating and line-dancing competition.  The planning required for philanthropy events requires organizational skills and enthusiasm from each member, and develops skills that will benefit each woman beyond her college years.

Social:

The Greek system provides a multitude of opportunities for social functions, such as date parties, formals, Homecoming, Greek Week, dinner exchanges, and chapter retreats.  These events facilitate the development of friendships between sorority sisters as well as the Greek community and the entire student body.  All sororities uphold high standards for members at social functions, and require adherance to guidelines for safe events.  Social activities in Alpha Delta Pi include themed date parties, such as this year's Mardi Gras Masquerade, and the annual Halloween roller-skating costume party.  Sisterhood events allow sisters to spend relaxing time together and include such events as cookouts, movie nights, group workouts at the chapter house, or even decorating the house for Christmas.  Everyone enjoys these events, as they provide a time to get together and escape the stress of school work and responsibilities.  All activites are optional, and allow members to choose their level of involvement.  Some women attend every event, and others with busy schedules are more selective, but this is true for everyone: sorority membership is great for preventing boredom!

Alpha Delta Pi Welcomes a Beautiful New Alpha Class!

Beta Psi could not be more proud of the newest additions to the ADPi family.  Diamond Days were September 29th - October 2nd, and 69 new members were intiated on October 3rd.  They are pictured below at the Bid Day Picnic on August 23rd at Jacobson Park.
